Now, more than ever we are spending a lot of time at home. In fact, probably more than we ever imagined. Perhaps you want to invest in your home and organize, and beautify it more.

In this blog, I will discuss colors and favorite paints for 2020 and ideas of how to use them. Trending is not just specific colors themselves but it’s more about new overall color moods and how you can implement them in your space. Trust me, after 21 years in the industry as an Interior Designer not only do I know how to spot the smartest whites to the dare-to-do-it bold tones, but I’m willing to design with it! I am able to cultivate beautiful, livable spaces by choosing colors that work with the space by balancing the light.

WHAT’S OLD IS STILL NEW:

Sure, blue tones are still having their moment, but now my design is about also creating warm, tonal rooms. I am doing this for my clients by focusing on finding new ways to use neutral hues, rather than trying to incorporate one or two popular colors.

LESSONS FROM FASHION:

In fashion, 2020 is bringing in warm, muddy hues of yellow, brown, blush & orange and interiors tend to follow. Over the last few years cool grays, blues, and greens have been very popular and my clients are still loving them but are willing embrace something fresh and different now. Recent KDI designs are now focused on neutral hues of white, gray, or blue which are now being incorporated with accents of a mustard yellow, or brown and even blush pink to really make a space inviting.

USING FASHIONABLE TREND COLORS IN YOUR HOME:

An idea is to implement the trends from fashion into your home by using warm colors in smaller, transitional spaces such as an entry, powder room, laundry or home office as opposed to a master bedroom or living room. This is also an area where you can layer in color & texture.

To achieve this saturated look, a color suggestion would be to select a warm color such as an earthy brown or brown gray tone for walls, lighten the trim with a chalky blush or medium toned white, and add warmth with a darker mulberry, mustard, or navy as an accent. But if that’s not really your hue, no problem! Just grab a paint deck, pick a color you like and use the value scale to play with tonality!

If you’re ready to make a major change this year, look no further than the top paint colors of 2020, which run the gamut from classic blue, mustard, blush and earthy clay. A lot of fun can be had incorporating these colors into your space in a big way (walls or draperies) or in smaller accents (pillows or accessories). The 2020 Pantone Color of the Year is none other than Classic Blue, which will be popping up in homes everywhere in the new year. “Suggestive of the sky at dusk, the reassuring qualities of the thought-provoking [Classic Blue] highlight our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era” Pantone states.

MORE #1 TRENDers:

However, in addition to Pantone’s choice, a big paint color trend of 2020 is white on white on white. If you’re wondering…..this concept is anything but boring. While this concept might have been somewhat sterile looking, it’s more sophisticated and even more subtle and layered than before. I’ll see moody white set against clean, modern whites which lend age and depth to this versatile palette. While, I just recently started working on a project incorporating this palette, the virus shut it down (so I don’t have any of my own pictures of this to share with you) but it’s also a color palette that I am working on for one of my personal new homes under construction.

…OHHH YOU’RE MAKING ME BLUSH:

Ever since the term “millennial pink” was coined around 2016, the color has become an interior design phenomenon. Once again BLUSH will continue to be big in 2020 due to its flexibility to feel modern when mixed with warmer and jewel tones as well as the ability to bring a fresh feel to any room or piece of furniture.

Moody paint colors, such as peacock blue, charcoal, and black are ready to take center stage in 2020 AGAIN. I’ve been celebrating these tones in my designs for a while now and will continue to tease and please clients with these handsome hues that have both a calming and invigorating effect!
